Hoboken Councilman Tony Soares announced today that he will grant 3 scholarship awards to Hoboken college-bound graduates planning to major in performing or visual arts.
A total of 3 scholarship/financial awards in the amount of $1000 each will be granted in June. The three awards will be granted as follows:
The first two awards are available to any graduate of any Hoboken-based high school: 1 for visual arts and 1 for performing arts.
The third award will be granted exclusively to any Hoboken public high school graduate majoring in performing or visual arts.
Requirements: students should submit one letter of recommendation from their instructor or guidance counselor, one letter from the student, and proof of school or college acceptance. Applications should be submitted by May 31, 2005.
Send materials to Councilman Tony Soares, 551 Observer Hwy #7B, Hoboken, NJ, 07030. 201-798-3781. Selections will be made by the Soares family based on input from the students' instructors.
This program is wholly financed through Councilman Soares' personal funds and not through and tax-deductible programs or foundations. The Calella-Soares Grants were started three years ago by Councilman Soares in honor of his late mother, a private and parochial school art teacher.
