What will you find
that's hot, quick, inexpensive, with sizes that satisfy, on the corner of
Washington and Second? From their convenient walk-up window, The Soup Hut daily
offers six, freshly made gourmet soups, from a rotating menu of 75 different
meat, vegetable, and seafood varieties.
It was Richard
Irving, Jr., who got his father, Richard Irving Sr., his brother Christopher (a
resident of Hoboken), and friend Don Munroe interested in this popular venture.
They arrived in Hoboken last April as The Ice Hut-one of the few Huts in the
franchise that switch over to soups in the colder months.
They Do a 'Bisque'
Business
On chilly
evenings, you'll often see people lining up for a fast, convenient, yet
incredibly delicious, hot meal. Some of the favorites include the Lobster and
Crab Bisques, Cream of Tomato and Tortellini, and the classic Chicken Noodle.
Each soup purchase comes with a mini-bread loaf and a chocolate mint candy.
Soup sizes are 12, 16, and 24 ounces, and range in price from $3.50 to $8.75.
The Soup Hut also sells soda and water.
Hoboken resident
Laura Mailer says "The Soup Hut is a terrific idea. The people are friendly,
and inviting, the soup is delicious, and how much more convenient could it be?"
The Soup Hut also
faxes their menu daily to local business and makes deliveries from 11:30am to
2pm, Monday through Friday. If your business would like to receive a daily
menu, or you'd like to order, call 795-0001.
In April, they
will switch back to The Ice Hut and offer 6 different flavors of ices, also
made fresh daily, as well as fat free ice cream. One of their more popular
treats is the Combo Cooler, which layers ice cream and ice together.
The Ice/Soup Hut
franchise already has a great local following in Nutley, Union, Spring Lake,
Wall Township, and Princeton. Even The New York Times has noted the franchise's
loyal customer base.
