July 4, 2005 - Fireworks
|
|
If you're looking to view some fireworks to celebrate Uncle Sam's 229th birthday this year, hobokeni.com has the following tips for your viewing convenience:
The Macy's fireworks are launched from three locations surrounding Manhattan and none of them are in ideal locations for viewing from the Hoboken waterfront. Two of the locations are over the East River and are, for the most part, blocked by the skyscrapers of Manhattan when viewed from Pier A Park. You'll have a better view of the fireworks shot off near the Statue of Liberty, if you can get near the edge of the Pier and look south. Of course, the view from various rooftops in Hoboken may be just fine, and perhaps too convenient to pass up.
For the more enterprising among us, a trip to Liberty State Park in Jersey City might be in order. The park is huge, especially by Hoboken standards. And you can't beat seeing Lady Liberty bathed in exploding color on our nation's birthday.
For the even more enterprising of those among us, NY Waterway is offering truly the best seats in the house for spectacular views of the Macy's fireworks show. The cruise boats depart at 7:30pm from the terminal on Hoboken's southern waterfront, which is early enough to offer spectators the best possible view of the extravaganza against the backdrop of the New York City skyline. Passengers will enjoy patriotic music and a simulcast of the fireworks music score, and a NY Waterway tour guide will be aboard each boat to point out landmarks, offer historic information, and answer questions. Beverages and snacks will also be available for purchase. Fares are $70 for adults and $60 for children, and reservations are required. Depending on river traffic, the boats are estimated to return to Hoboken by 11:00pm. For additional information, reservations, and to check ferry and cruise schedules, call 1-800-533-3779, or visit www.nywaterway.com. All tickets can be purchased online.
The fireworks begin at approximately 9:15pm on Monday evening, and are scheduled to last about 30 minutes. Enjoy the show!
