I moved here a couple weeks ago and have been craving pizza. The phone book has an overwhelming amount of entries. I just thought I would narrow them to your personal favorites. Any ideas??? Thanks

For traditional pizza, I think Mario's Classic on 8th and Garden is the best in the city. Everyone says Benny's is better but I've found during the past couple of years it's gone downhill. Undercooked. Like 7 Star, and to a lesser extent Filippo's, they emphasize quan***y over quality. Plus Mario is a nice guy. Also worth mentioning is Grimaldi's on Second (and Clinton, I believe). More of the gourmet - and more expensive - variety. Buon Ape***o!

Regarding the overwhelming pizza choices...
A) I would experiment with them all, to find which suits your taste most.
B) There are different situations where pizza can taste "different"... After a night of drinking, almost any pizza will do good.... Sometimes, by the slice will taste different thatn when you order a whole pie.. keep that in mind when making your final decision...
My observations- Best drunk slice: Hoboken Pizza (nice garlic flavor, but cheap portions).. 7 Star can be a good drunk slice, too... Best eat-in pizza: Grimaldi's & Augostino's Best delivery pie: Rosario's & Mario's (sometime mario's cheese gets rubbery) Least favorite delivery: Benny's... way to sloppy and ill-prepared.. Best Bar pie: Three A's.. .awesome.. thin crust, crispy and cooked to perfection..
Anyone hungry?

PIZZA, PIZZA, PIZZA! Mario's Pizza is good, but was much better a few years ago. Benny's comes and go's really. It is better in my opinion if purchased by slice as opposed to pie. Domino's is out. Molina's on 6th and Adams is good, but small. Pizza Hut on rt 440 in Jersey City is best. Flippo's is also real good. The only problem is that if you go there at night the guys behind the counter always give you the wrong change so make sure you know the prices so not to short yourself.

Being so far away when in Hoboken I always crave "uncle" Bennys! By far the superior thin crust pizza. During my years in Boston I'd always bring some slice pie back for friends....the same is true for SC Its's a shame I cant figure out how to fedex pizza

Rosario's has the worst pizza imagineable - chintzy on the cheese and always not burnt, yet overcooked. Reversly, they have the best pasta in the world - go figure. I happen to love Benny's - lots of cheese and gooey - like a true NY pizza should be!!!

I hate to say this... gulp...
But, I've always felt that the worst slice in NYC is better than the best slice in Hoboken...
Better compe***ion creates better pizza...
Touche on the Rosarios opinion.. I've had one or two bad outings with them, but on the contrary, they're not chintzy on cheese? And consistently one of the better to me...
Damn, every time I post on Pizza I get hungry..

The thing I find most frustrating is that the quality at anyone of the above mentioned places changes daily. I used to love Marios but lately it's hit or miss. I'm on the 7 star kick now but I was disappointed last time I had it. I think I may try Filippos next, I keep on hearing good things about it. Well see..... Hopefully, it will be a good day.

UPDATE~~ I hesitated sharing this with you all, but I've discovered the best delivery Pizza in Hoboken... And I thought I would never order from there...
Ready?
Torna Pizza on 9th St.
To me, it's the perfect pie (with a little tweaking)... sauce and cheese all the way out to the edge. Not sloppy and flimsy like other places.. 8 bucks for a pie. Slightly thicker bottom crust... Just fabulous.
Two tips for ordering a pie... (and I learned from experience)....
A) ask for a bit of extra sauce on the pie (as it is a little thicker)
B) Tell them not to make it too overdone.. a couple of pies I had there were a tad burnt, but nonetheless awesome.
Overall, I think this is an excellent value, although the place looks like it's condemned and all, no matter. Give them a try.. it sure beats this other crap we've been used to getting ripped off by... Go TORNA!!!!
Don't you love discovering something right in front of your face?
