I only expect that he govern on the same priciples he campaigned.

All these liberals shout from the hightest mountain about cutting taxes, fiscal responsability and waste in governemnt. Then they get into office and go right back to their tax and spend game plan.

That's the #1 reason I couldn't be a liberal. Because of thier distasteful policies, they are incapable of being elected on what they really believe. It just wouldn't happen. So they campaign on lies.

I have to give Howard Dean credit. He told the truth when he ran. You see where it got him--he's a laughing stock--but he told the truth.

This year, as the election approaches, watch all the liberals campaign as Republicans (if not flat out conservatives), then after the ignorant in this state get tricked into voting Democrat again, watch them go right back to raising taxes & increasing spending.

'They all do it' is a cop out. Show me a liberal (in addition to Dean and mayby Denis Kusinich) who campaigns on that same line they govern by.

(There's a difference between keeping troups in Iraq to protect the fledgling government from the same terrorists who cut people heads off and Soviet Sattalite style nation building.)

For once the media got the story right.

Cap Hill police plan to issue arrest warrant today for Rep. Cynthia McKinney...

McKinney Cancels News Conference

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Capitol Hill police plan to issue an arrest warrant today for Rep. Cynthia McKinney (D-Ga.).

The warrant is related to the incident Wednesday when McKinney allegedly slapped a Capitol Hill police officer.

Charges could range from assault on a police officer, which is a felony carrying a possible five year prison term, to simple assault, which is a misdeamenor.

McKinney issued a statement yesterday saying she "deeply regrets" the confrontation with the police officer.

McKinny refused to take responsability for her role in the incident saying only that she regrets it happenedm, the same way one might regret that it's raining or that they have a cold.

Asked on-camera Thursday by Channel 2 Action News whether she intended to apologize, McKinney refused to comment. However, she did not strike the reporter or camera operator

"I know that Capitol Hill Police are securing our safety, and I appreciate the work that they do--even the Crackers. I have demonstrated my support for them in the past and I continue to support them now," she said in the statement on her Web site.

Democrats meanwhile are engaged in a rhetorical scuffle and damage control over the incident.

Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi on Thursday labeled it "a mistake, an unfortunate lack of recognition of a member of Congress." She added that the police officer was not at fault.

However Ms. Pelosi refused to acknowled that McKinny has a history of this behavior, should accept responsability and needs to be held accountable. "Lets not forget that Ms. McKinny hails from a culture of violence" Pelosi pointed out.

"I would not make a big deal of this, unless of course someone struck me" said Pelosi, D-Calif.

Ron Bonjean, spokesman for House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., responded: "How many officers would have to be punched before it becomes a big deal?"

The Capitol Police department faces a difficult task -- protecting 535 members of Congress and the vast Capitol complex in an atmosphere thick with politics and privilege and bigotry.

Merle Black, a professor of politics at Emory University, says that while the scuffle was rare for an elected politician, it's not uncommon for Ms. McKinney, and is unlikely to cost her more than a few votes.

Black says McKinney has her constituants so confused by cries of racism behind every door that few of them understand the gravity of striking a police officer who is only doing his job, as long as he's a cracker--ass--cracker.

So *all* republicans keep their campaign promises?

No, all Republicans do not. But that's not the point. The point is that NO liberals do.

I can see occasionally getting into office and realizing things are different than you thought when you campaigned.

Back in '92 Clinton used that excuse. He campaigned on tax cuts, then once elected, initiated the largest tax increase in the history of the US (and you can check that stat).

At the time Clinton said he wanted to cut taxes but while a candidate he had no idea how bad things were and really he has no choice.

Foolishly, I bought it at the time. But, fool me once: shame on you--fool me twice: shame on me.

That was 14 years ago and I've yet to see a liberal run on tax cuts and actually legislate that way.

No, Republicans aren't perfect. Sometimes they say 'x' adn do 'y'. But liberals are; every time that they say 'x' you can count on 'y'. That's because 'y' gets you the kind of unceremoneous ouster as Howard Dean got.

As I read this thread I realized a few things:

1. I don't know nearly as much about politics as the rest of you;
2. I don't like all republicans or dislike all dems; and
3. I don't really care about politics as much as you guys do.

Is that really your standard?

The point is not 'can you trust every word from a Republican'. The point IS 'you can't trust any Democrat who's talking about tax cuts'

But you keep on voting with your eyes closed to the truth. In fact, what Dems say really doesn't matter because all candidates lie (in your opinion) so why bother paying attention.
