I have to present ID to get into my building. I know the security guard by name and he knows me, yet every morning I have my ID out and ready for him.
It's common courtesy. He has a job to do, I appreciate his effort to keep the building secure.
Why is that clear to me (and apparently most of us) and yet somehow alludes Ms. McKinny?
