Anyone suggesting the spread of viruses obviously doesn't know the first thing about computers. Or he's just an asshole. The fact is, if you send out a virus to punish certain people, as far as I can tell, that virus can spread and spread and spread and take down innocent computers. Not to mention the fact that I am a huge believer in file swapping-even if I can't do it anymore.

As much as I love the idea of a small government, this might be one area where'd I'd be OK (publicly financed elections).

The problem is that there are a ton of ways for frauds like Al Sharpton to manipulate the process just to get the public $$ for their own uses. A bunch of conservative web sites were following how Sharpton manipulated his run for President to basically make $$ for himself.

The problem with more (and bigger) government programs is that the more power and resources we allow politicians to exercise, the more waste and corruption we'll see.

Just look at the recent Hoboken Housing scandal. A private for-profit company would never tolerate one of its managers pulling that crap.

I also just read something in the NY Times about the school system in Roslyn, NY (Long Island?) where the admin people ripped off the taxpayers for millions for limosines, flowers, parties at Windows of the World, etc.

All these ideas and programs do have good intentions but they just can't work without strict accountability and nasty penalties for the frauds (Sharpton, the housing guy, et al) who will try to manipulate them to make a buck.

I don't think I'd call it massive amounts of corruption. It has it's problems, but not everyone is corrupt. I'd like to see a system that doesn't seem so dependent upon money, but there are other issues...Republicans, for instance, will argue that donation limits infringe upon free speech.

Ever think the low level corruption is due to the lack of oversight due to the high level corruption?

I don't mind Big Al stealing some cash. Small price to pay for better government. I think any citizen who can get an appropriate number of signatures should be given cash to run for office. The shake up this would cause in politican's priorites would soon have effect.

BTW ever take a look at the percentage of NY state assembly members who get relected?
