The Story Behind the Hoboken Community Mural Project
Early in January of 2005, Hoboken, New Jersey, began a year-long celebration of its Sesquicentennial. This square mile, was originally an island river park back in the early 1800's. Since then, Hoboken has evolved into the home of a thriving, diverse community of over 40,000 people. In honor of Hoboken's Birthday, one of the many events to mark this occasion, has turned out to be a very bright spot in its history - the Hoboken Community Mural Project.
As the calendar moves from B.H. to A.H. (Before Hunt and After Hunt) and the memories of October 19th are safely tucked away thanks to the wonders of selective amnesia, a new era is upon us. The fake phone numbers exchanged D.H. (During Hunt) are now at the bottom of the circular file (C’mon, did you ladies really think I would be fooled again by the whole 867-5309 “Jenny” trick?), so it’s appropriate to move on to Stage 2 of Autumn.
Yes, it’s now time to start looking at, of all things, the Classified section.
With the exception of your closest friends, and you know who they are, most friendships are like a McDonalds drive-thru: A matter of quick and easy convenience.
Let’s face it: Particularly for single people, niche friends are the lifeblood of existence. We need, as a candid friend once described, "warm bodies" to surround ourselves with to help bridge the gaps between relationships and work. These kinds of allies fill social calendars and beach and ski rentals while simultaneously creating a false yet strong sense of security.
