The atmosphere is cozy, relaxed and conducive to unwinding.
New artwork is shown every
2 months, from a diverse selection of local talent. The current exhibit, also

Ristra
230 Washington Street
201-216-1550
AKA Rodeo, offering a full bar, plenty of lounge space and newly displayed artwork every week. A dance
club on the weekends, Ristra also hosts ArtKore on Tuesday nights for a change
in tempo.
Part exhibit, part open-mic, ArtKore is a weekly event that brings together artists, musicians
and a healthy crowd. On the ground level you’ll find the latest exhibit and a
curved bar toward the back of the room. Downstairs is where the open mike takes
place, with seating along the walls.
For Hoboken’s Music and Art Festival this May, Ristra will feature five visual artists, two bands and three
solo acts which will be hard to miss if you’re strolling along Washington
Street. Keep your eyes out for it.

Maxwell’s
1039 Washington Street
201-653-1703
Hoboken’s stage/gallery/restaurant/bar/lounge. Offering a backroom that can handle crowds
of 150+, Maxwell’s is best known for the underground and indie bands that have
and continue to perform there. Embracing artwork, Maxwell’s also functions as
both gallery and guild. New artwork is rotated every month with a celebratory
opening on the first Monday.
Interestingly, most of the
staff are artists, and with exhibits booked until February 2003, being an
employee certainly helps. With the fresh artwork, full bar, swinging jukebox,
stand-alone menu and swanky lounge, there’s plenty here to engage the senses.
And that’s if you’re not there for a show.
